DCD Rights launches four MIPCOM titles under Producer Support Initiative

Daniel Sharp, director and producer at SWR Media, said: “The Producer Support Initiative has given us an exciting opportunity to work with DCD to create a thrilling series covering some of history’s most important and catastrophic engineering disasters. The vast catalogue of historical footage made available to us, alongside unique interviews with industry experts and academics enabled us to tell these stories in a truly exciting way.”

DCD funds four for Mipcom

UK-based independent distributor DCD Rights has secured production funding for four factual series to be launched at Mipcom next month. Disasters Engineered (10×60′) explores mankind’s greatest engineering disasters, including the Titanic and Chernobyl. It is produced by SWR Media and Intermission Film in association with Dash Pictures for Discovery UK. DCD Rights will shop it internationally.

Ray Winstone’s career includes hit films “Sexy Beast” and “The Departed,” but making his first-ever doc series has proved as challenging as any movie part. “It’s probably the most difficult work I’ve done to be honest with you,” Winstone told Variety. “You are baring all in a way. The camera is on you more or less 24/7.” The show is “Ray Winstone’s World: Sicily,” a travel series following the London-born actor on a journey around the popular Mediterranean destination.

In a courageous move, Winstone films from the summit of the active volcano, Mount Etna as well as visits the Aeolian island of Lipari and the historic yet frantic city of Palermo.

Hot Picks: Ray Winstone’s World: Sicily

The show got off the ground when Winstone linked up with SWR earlier this year and his idea was moulded into a TV project that SWR founder Daniel Sharp took to Banijay Group’s sales arm. Lemos says that Banijay has been keen to work with Sharp for some time, following the work he did on Road Rivals, an SWR-produced factual entertainment series.
